Summary/objective
To maintain and perform efficient and accurate water meter reading utilizing automated meter reading/advance meter infrastructure (AMR/AMI) system while being alert to observe conditions detrimental to the Water District’s operation. To create and maintain a positive relationship between the Water District and customers.

- Reads meters on designated routes as scheduled.
- Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots AMR/AMI equipment and ensures work is kept on schedule (including branch offices).
- Edits, updates, and verifies meter reading data for accuracy on a continuous basis in the AMR/AMI system and billing software as required.
- Obtains detailed customer usage data as needed and assists Customer Service Representatives and customers in understanding usage information.
- Inspects distribution system daily and issues service orders and work orders on any facilities in need of repair including main line leaks, service line leaks, leaks at the meter, and damaged meter installations.
- Notifies customer of high usage due to possible leak on their service line in accordance with the district’s procedures.
- Performs water service connects and disconnects. Collects delinquent water service accounts.
- Maintains accurate inventory of parts and is responsible for proper accounting of all materials used.
- Performs meter change outs, meter inspections. Assists in meter testing, calibration, and repair of meters. Creates or maintains records in accordance with Kentucky Public Service Commission requirements.
- Performs standby duty.
- Inspects assigned tools, vehicles, and protective equipment daily and recommends replacement when necessary. Personally owned tools are also subject to inspection and replacement when necessary.
Other
- Keeps general manager advised of any informalities internal or external along with any overall personnel and customer problems or other needs within the organization.
- Keeps familiar with Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) reporting on hazardous and toxic chemicals, found or used in the work area.
- Works according to safety standards and polices adopted by Warren County Water District, is responsible for his or her own safety, and reports all incidents to his or her supervisor.
- Complies with all local traffic laws, regulations, and safe practices while operating any company vehicle.
- Must be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon employment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Must have ability to understand, operate, and troubleshoot automated electronic metering equipment and software.
- Must be able to work through technical or mechanical problems when they occur with guidance.
- Ability to use various computing devices including Windows, IOS, and Android devices.
- Ability to use GIS maps and applications for navigation and data collection to efficiently perform job functions.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Must be willing to listen patiently to customers as they inquire and/or express their concerns.
- Apply confidentiality to all areas of sensitive employee and customer information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Reporting relationships
- Reports to: AMR/AMI Supervisor
Work environment
- Must be able to perform outside work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to work a forty-hour week plus any extra time the position demands along with standby duty.
Physical demands
Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
Travel required.
Education and experience
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- One year’s experience in utility service preferred. Advanced education beyond high school may be considered as experience.
Additional eligibility requirements
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess a basic mechanic’s tool set.
- Must reside within one-hour response time of work location.
- Must be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon employment.
