Summary/objective
To perform efficient wastewater system operation and maintenance. To assist in the performance of inflow/infiltration accountability within established district goals and Division of Water rules and regulations.
Essential functions

- Performs operation, maintenance, and repair to the wastewater collection system including lift stations. Appropriately documents work. Assists with water system operation and maintenance.
- Assists with wastewater system testing for infiltration and inflow through flow metering, smoke testing, visual inspection, and other inspection methods.
- Makes recommendations regarding effective and efficient wastewater system operation.
- Maintains current knowledge of wastewater lines, force mains, air release valves, on/off valves, meters and other system facilities. Provides feedback to GIS Analyst when mapping updates are needed.
- Uses GPS to record work as well as to navigate and locate system facilities.
- Prepares and submits all required reports such as inspection records, service requests/work orders, and time sheets.
- Performs other duties required of the Operations group as directed.
- Assumes responsibility for maintaining all tools, transportation, work equipment, and buildings assigned in a clean, neat, and safe working condition.
- Assist with planned and emergency outages and service calls assuring that service interruptions and customer inconvenience will be held to a minimum.
- Performs after hour operation while on standby as assigned.
- Keeps general manager advised of any informalities internal or external along with any overall personnel and customer problems or other needs within the organization.
- Keeps familiar with Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) reporting on hazardous and toxic chemicals, found or used in the work area.
- Works according to safety standards and polices adopted by Warren County Water District, is responsible for his or her own safety, and reports all incidents to his or her supervisor.
- Complies with all local traffic laws, regulations, and safe practices while operating any company vehicle.
- Must be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon employment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Must possess an effective working knowledge of the operations and maintenance of wastewater facilities, including the operations of lift stations, force mains, and air release valves.
- Must have knowledge of systems and be able to use mapping system effectively.
- Must be willing to learn collection system inspection methods including smoke testing, visual and video inspection.
- Must be able to efficiently use Windows, Android, and IOS operating systems.
- Must have general knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Must be willing to develop skills in all work required.
- Must be able to organize daily work as well as assignments given by supervisor.
- Must have computer skills and access records on a digital device quickly and efficiently.
- Apply confidentiality to all areas of sensitive employee and customer information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Reporting relationships
- Reports to: Operations Supervisor
Work environment
- Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to work a forty-hour week plus any extra time the position demands along with standby duty.
Physical demands
Lifting up to fifty pounds is required. Must be able to climb in sewer manholes.
Travel required
Some travel in and around the system will be required. Must be able to attend classes, as requested, in job-related areas.
Education and experience
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- One year’s experience in operations and maintenance of a wastewater system preferred.
Additional eligibility requirements
- Must be willing to obtain Class III Wastewater Collection Operator License
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be eligible to obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license with tanker endorsement.
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon employment.
- Must reside within a one-hour response time from work location.
